I should have posted this a long time ago, but never seemed to get around to it.

There is an issue with delayed e-mails when someone sends you a private message. When I say delayed, I mean delayed by months. Wish I could provide a specific date, but I normally just delete them when I see them because they are so old.

The sequence is:
I receive a PM
I respond
Months go by
I receive an email notification from these forums that I have a PM.

I enabled email notifications during November 2015, and first message I received was already delayed.

Delay period is constantly growing: starting from 9 days at december, to almost 2 months right now.

Since I first signed up back in 2014. I told you I should have reported it long ago.

Fortunately, I am such a frequent visitor it has had no real impact on me.

Just some time ago, we changed the smtp server. If these errors have been for a long time, it may be the problem was on the old server.

If the problem persists - let me know please!

Are you asking us to test this? Because, as Custodian demonstrated, we cannot effectively test something that takes over 3 months to complete per test.

I propose to make a test to repeat the actions specified in the first post by Azzerhoden:
1. you send me a private message here, and write on it below here this thread forum.
2. I get and answer you. and also inform the posts here.
3. If you receive notification, then replies with me a private message.
4. I'm just waiting for the mail notification.
If everything is OK - I have to report - if not, then I will fix the problem. So we repeatedly examine the situation.

There is no need to make any tests.
Apparently, since all mesages are being delivered and not being lost, there is a huge outgoing queue at your mail server, or at your initial message generation software.

I have provided you a email headers with message IDs from your postfix server, so you can trace down the postfix subsystem logs to find the bottleneck.

Actually i saw your message before and i though the same as you. But since Codeman still asked for a test message and considering that your messages are almost 3 months old and sometimes with log rotation some logs might have been lost or maybe are in a backup hard to find , so i decided to send a new one.

And btw i only came to the game a couple of weeks ago. Since then i received the message regarding the registration confirmation that was almost immediate but any messages from the foruns although i've asked to "Notify me when a reply is posted" on a previous post and in this one also.

this problem still exists.

I have just received another bunch of emails from 16 Feburary.
Delay now is almost 2.5 months, and still growing.

how is your investigation going? Have you received email notifications for private messages Kulak and Just_TJ sended you?

Please review your mail software configuration.

Private messages outbox is not an email notifications queue.

Positive (not 0) outbox message number means, that recipients hasn't readed your message yet.
Thus, you can edit or cancel such messages.
