So, I've been following this game for many months now and I'd actually like a chance to get more involved. I read on another thread that if you donate, you can get into the (closed?) alpha.

What is the current state of the alpha and how does this work? Are the servers up and running 24/7 and you gain access to the test server after donating or are the servers put online a few hours here and there on specified dates etc?

Just a little more clarification would be nice from someone who has donated already.
