Considering there are over 2.8 million trees it might take a while to deplete the natural reserves not to mention new tree growth.

:Search:

If you choose to settle in the plains you might want to find a trader or trade route that gives access to this resource.

Deforest a forest and we are on the second ...

Luckily we have a herbalist and is planting a new forest in the first place, but it will take a lot of wood!

I dread to think what will happen to the mountains when we start let castles, rocks and stones!

Im just not sure about 3 players deforesting an entire "forest" to build a a couple small huts. It might need a tweak. Maybe not.

It all depends on type of trees in the area and quality of wood, from the smaller trees you may get only one building log or couple boards, while large trees will provide you with several logs each. So if you are cutting down some small trees, you will need to deforest large area even for a tiny shack. Best choice is to find large trees, which require higher level of logging skill, but of course gives you a lot more wood.

I think it's fine, if people replace the trees they cute with saplings etc it adds more realism to the game and becomes more immersive having to manage the resources around you. Plus it makes building large cities etc more of an epic feat then just time consuming.

I'm not saying it's a bad system. It's great. But, have we miscalculated how many logs these trees should provide?

If there are tens of thousands of players, trees will disappear much faster than the rate they can be re-planted.

Also, it's a little naive to assume that people will re-plant the trees and not just continue to consume them like they do in real life!

Plus, enemy players can easily raid your tree saplings when you're offline, potentially making it unrewarding to cultivate a slow-growing tree farm.

I agree with jezbelle , 3 players deforesting whole forest just for 3 small shacks? Can you imagine what would 1000 players do ?

We cutted many hard wood trees that no produce only 1 building log, but palisade and wooden walls required many wood.

Our loggin skill is 60+.

And yes, when game start the wood will be how gold, for guilds with more than 100 players will be hard this xD.

Bobik said to me that in north of map will be more wood than in the south, but... 100+ players are 100 shacks (if build other houses required more wood xD)

the shack that no required many wood need 5 building logs+ many clay.

a simple palisade wall need 5 building logs.
mm around 10 (or more) palisade walls will need for each shack(depends on the number of shacks and design of city)

5*100=500
5*10*100=5000
5500 logs required.
average logs for tree=3 (softwood+hardwood counted +/-)

5500/3=1833 trees will be needed or more.(this is the minimum)

The others shacks required 10 building log and 20 boards.(others houses many many more)
Wooden wall require 8 building logs and 10 hardwood boards

12*100=1200
9*10*100=9000
10200 logs required.
10200/3=3400 trees

no counted wooden doors for this calc.

All shacks are for 1 single player.

for example a wooden house for 5 players:

400 building logs+6*9 hardwood board+16*2soft board

around 490 building logs for each 5 players=98 for player.

98*100=9800
9000
18800 logs required=6266 trees.

xD many trees, I can continue with larger houses.

One thing, Houses are designed to have multiple people living in them so instead of 10 shacks, one large house. Not only would you probably spend less resources you will be much more comfortable with nice smooth wood walls and more space.

EDIT: not 100 shacks, 10 large houses. Bigger houses will probably be built as people are heavily encouraged to work in guilds, large and otherwise.

Yes, big houses are more atractives, but need more skills too and more materials.

Wow good job guys! Your're village is really coming together. Approximately how long did it take you to gather enough materials for the shacks and walls?

Nice. Does your group have the required number of people to claim land as a guild?

I'm really interested in seeing this feature in action for the first time.
