Concerning Wildlife and PvE.

Post by Sensei » 10 Feb 2014, 01:12

Firstly - I've tried to search if this has been discussed already but couldn't find anything. Apologies if I simply missed something.

So far I "think" I understand that PvE in terms of wild aggressive animals will not feature in the game to any great extent (if at all?) - is this correct?

I suppose what I am trying to work out is what might happen when a player joins the main continent and decides to spawn randomly in the wild. Coming from Wurm I know if a noob tried that there they wouldn't last more than a couple of minutes most places before something ate them for lunch.
How is that going to compare to LiF?

Do we go semi-naked into the wild and take our chances with the first hungry wolf that sees us? Or is this something unlikely to happen?

Hi there!

I've also played Wurm, but as far as I know, in the main continent, there will be a starting NPC city. So, I don't really think you'd get killed by wild fauna! Please correct me if I'm wrong, though!

This is actually why I'm asking. From what I've read when you cross to the main island you will have a choice to either spawn in a starter city or randomly anywhere outside on the map.

What choice you make there could obviously depend on whether you will be immediately eaten or not :)

Wildlife is important I suppose, it would make life a bit harder, or a bit more cool for those who want to go hunting deers :P I suppose a simple wildlife of rabbits, wolves, bears, deers, and so on would be great for the game, but if we'll see it, it would be in the last stages of alpha, or in the first of beta

All new players will be placed at newbie island, so I suppose every fresh gamer will have relative/max protection from natural dangers of nature for some time (predators hostile players and such).
Hunger/thirst/gravity, whatsoever, will probably start keeping us on our toes from first minutes of the game.

Tamed and untamed wildlife is a big factor of the crafting. Worth of note is the civilization-meter-mechanic where unaggressive and aggressive wildlife spawn at a higher rate the further from settled areas it is.

So running out in the wild without looking both ways will have you killed and respawned at your house or the NPC city.
