This is probably going to be a shocker to most players, even well established and experience ones.
There's no grinding, unless you make it so.
It is simple matter of managing expectations. If you come to play the game, with one goal in mind being the "end game" like say having your own castle. Then yes, getting one is a grind.
Same goes for every other MMO out there. Grinding is simply a term created by people with unrealistic expectations of reaching end games an hour after launching the game. Like reading a book or watching a movie - it is the journey that takes place between beginning and end that's the feature.
When MMO hits, there's gonna be a lot less skillcap than what most servers allow, a thing that will further decrease the concept of "grinding". If you can't enjoy farming, or any other single profession you will be limited to, this game is not for you.
With that said, having recently returned myself, As Azzerhoden frames, it has gotten a lot easier with several quality of life improvements such as "mass produce" option to avoid endless clicking of repeatable actions.
A lot of features have also been fully implemented, so there no stonewalling sensations anymore when you work towards something and then find out it doesn't actually work. (Spent hours on that damned sawmill back in the day, just to find it didn't work).
